Qantas unleashes double frequent flyer points deal
Qantas is now offering a double serve of frequent flyer points on all bookings made from today, September 5 through to September 12.
The deal covers domestic and international Qantas flights as well as codeshare bookings (with a QF flight number) on partner airlines such as Emirates, for travel up to and including February 28, 2015.
And pocketing up twice the usual number of points is not to be sneezed at.
For example, flying on a standard business class return fare from Australia to the UK, Europe or the USA under the double points deal nets you an extra 37,200 points.
That's enough for an upgrade from economy to premium economy on almost all Qantas international flights, or a few economy to business class upgrades between Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth.
Stephanie Tully, Chief Marketing Officer for Qantas Loyalty, says the double points deal is "a simple way of saying thank you" to the frequent flyer scheme's 10 million members.
"We’re often looking for opportunities to reward our members beyond what the program normally offers, and we’ve found doubling points is a simple and extremely popular way of doing that."
Watch for an email blast to all Qantas Frequent Flyer members today which will contain more details, or just click straight through to the promo page at Qantas.com.au – in both cases you'll need to click a button to register for the double points deal.
But remember, the clock's ticking – you'll have to make your bookings by 11.59pm Eastern, Friday September 12.

Double frequent flyer points, not double status credits.

I seem to recall that Qantas did run at least one promotion for double status credits some time ago. If QF wanted to ensure customer loyalty (thereby keeping the QFF program in tip top sale-ready shape) a double SC promo every so often would go a long way. Double points are great, but I for one have them coming out my ears at the moment.

And presumably it is only double Base points ???
So a Bronze flying Discount on Syd-Mel = 400 x 2 = 800 points (which is what they would have earnt before)
Whereas a Platinum flying Discount Syd-Mel = 400 x 2 + 400 = 1200 points.
(And Silver 1000, Gold 1100)

moa999: yep, T&Cs on the Qantas pages we've linked to say "Bonus Qantas Points are based on the Base Rate which applies and for the purposes of this promotion does not include any Status Bonus that may apply for tier members."

This is not quite the whole story. I was told, and booked accordingly, that the offer takes into account yout tier status, in that I am eligible for a double serve of points based on my Gold status. So for a SYD-JFK return flight in PE (with fingers crossed for a Biz upgrade to soak up some points) my points haul will be 43800 X 2. Status credits remain at 280.

Is it so hard for you to click the link to the Qantas website and read up on all the details for yourself?
In case your answer is "Yes":
"An eligible flight for the purpose of this promotion means any flight with a QF flight number on your ticket where Status Credits or Qantas Points are normally earned. Status Credits and Qantas Points may not be earned on some fare types and booking classes including Classic Award flights and flights with a QF flight number on the ticket operated by Jetstar, Jetstar Asia, Valuair and Jetstar Japan other than in Economy classes of Y, B, H, K or L (earn in L class is eligible only when travelling on a oneworld® fare product). See the Airline Earning Tables for details."

I registered my wife for the double point offer for a ticket from Melb to London. It would be nice if Qantas can incorporate the point earner in the booking screen. This would certainly make it easy to choose the class of ticket, either Saver, Flexible Economy or Premium Economy, if the booking screen shows the QFF points and also the SC for each class of ticket, instead of having to go out of the booking screen and go into the point earner screen.
