United's Boeing 787-10 to get Polaris business class, premium economy

United Airlines will turn the Boeing 787-10 into a flagship for the US carrier on its debut later this year, with the stretched Dreamliner boasting its latest Polaris business class as well as all-new premium economy seats.

A leaked seatmap for United's Boeing 787-10 shows 44 of the staggered direct aisle access Polaris seats...

... ahead of a modest 21 seats arranged in three rows of 2-3-2 in the Premium Plus premium economy cabin...

The Premium Plus experience will include wider seats with more recline and legroom, with United also promising "upgraded dining on china dinnerware, free alcoholic beverages, a Saks Fifth Avenue blanket and pillow, an amenity kit and more."

Those spacious seats will be followed by 45 extra-legroom Economy Plus seats and 208 standard economy seats.

United has 14 Boeing 787-10s on order, which will join its existing 22-strong Dreamliner fleet comprising both the original 787-8 and the longer-range 787-9 used for flights to Sydney and Melbourne.

In related news, United Airlines has also set April 30 as the opening date for its new Polaris lounge at San Francisco, which will be followed by Polaris lounges at Newark and Houston around the middle of this year, with LAX planned for year's end.

Polaris lounges for London, Hong Kong and Tokyo are now looking like a 2019-2020 proposition.

That’s a great looking PE seat, take note Red Roo..

United’s Economy Plus product is also a clever one, in my view. There are a lot of Y class travellers happy to pay up a modest impost for a few extra inches of legroom and a couple of perks on long haul flights.

There are no perks in Economy Plus, just extra legroom.

Couldn’t agree more about your comment about the PE seat Mark. Good to see a US carrier investing in their product.

To be fair, AA already has PE seating on many of their 77E's now and DL has it on the A350. UA is just playing catch up

Looks good but let's not forget this is United. If they can actually deliver a competitive J & PE experience against VA & QF on transpac that will truly be a quantum leap for them.

Hopefully we’ll see the 787-10 on UA’s Australian flights

No chance of that happening. The 787-10 doesn't have anywhere near the range required.
