    All stored value give rubbish exchange rates. I haven’t used the Qantas card for years for that reason. Same for the Virgin offering. Unless they start offering realistic exchange rates I consign the new one to the bin as soon as it arrives.

    Good article. I did a similar analysis when traveling through UK, Spain and Portugal in July/August this year. The potential additional cost to me had I chosen the “pay in Australian dollars” option, would have been significant over the seven weeks of our travel.

    Have a look at Plaza de Santa Ana. Close to main metro stations and Atocha Renfe station. Walking distance to main attractions including Prado Museum. Several good midrange hotels are in the vicinity and there are heaps of good restaurants and bars.

    I achieved LTG about 15 years ago. I’m now in my early 60s and am retired. I appreciate the lounge access when traveling the world with my wife. I think the benefits are a win-win for QF and for me. My first airline choice is QF because of the lounge status and associated benefits.
