  • Best Premium Economy to the USA

    Feb 17, 2019, 11:24 PM

In my experience AirNZ has the best premium economy product in the market, and very well priced for what you get particularly when on sale. As jianga mentions, the extra stop in AKL is a factor but the connections are fairly well-timed. Something to be mindful of is that only Qantas offer premium...

  • Lounge options South Africa

    1. Important to note that even though your SA flight is ticketed by QF, it's on an SA flight number (QF doesn't codeshare with SA). As far as I'm aware, your QFF gold status won't get you SA lounge access on its own - you would need to be flying in J for access to the SA domestic lounges at both ...

  • And unfortunately, sometimes the really long turnarounds (like the full day in LAX that QF and VA both have) do little to improve operational reliability. Most of this time is used for planned offline maintenance, so many of the smaller mechanical issues that cause unexpected delays don't become ...

  • Just be aware that while the southernmost routing is possible on QF63, it is actually quite rare. Most flights will cross on an arc closer to the Kerguelen Islands, in which case Antarctica won't be in sight. Sit on the left hand side of the aircraft just in case you get lucky, and keep a keen ey...

  • The seat itself is identical in both configurations. The only difference is the PTV, which is the older Rockwell Collins system on the 4-class aircraft and the newer Panasonic system on the 3-class. Picture quality and selection are better on the latter. Also note that the windowless rows di...

  • Qantas refresh for old Boeing 747s

    Dec 29, 2016, 08:47 PM

I flew OEB (one of the two non-refurb 744s) to SFO in late October in Y. It had new, A380-style seat covers throughout the Y cabin at that stage. I assumed that was all that constituted the 'refresh', since the W and J cabins looked otherwise unchanged.

  • Johannesburg - best lounge?

    Nov 18, 2016, 09:25 AM

Hi Ollie - presume you're departing on QF64 and therefore talking about the international side of the terminal. There isn't a whole lot of choice at JNB for Oneworld customers - most of the lounges are contract operations. QF will direct you to the Shongololo Lounge, a third-party contract lounge...

  • You're probably already aware of this, but the configuration between the two fleets is also slightly different. The non-refurb 747s feature four rows in 2-4-2 for a total of 32 seats, whereas the refurb 747s which have two extra pairs of seats in front of the four row section for a total of ...
