My Daughter and wife are flying to SFO on QF so landing 9-15am
I've read that Powell St Station has the most crime incidents
They are staying in Union Square , any comments on getting from SFO to Union Square most welcome
Also can anyone recommend a good town car service from SFO into the city

My wife and I used BART between SFO and Powell St and return last year. Our flights were during daylight and we didn’t feel threatened at any time. We travel a lot and exercise common sense wherever we go, including being alert to unfamiliar surroundings any irregular behaviour by those around us. If your wife and daughter choose this transport option they won’t be alone. On our trips there many others travelling to and from the airport.

I was there earlier this year and used the Powell St BART station on multiple occasions. As always, you just need to keep an eye on what's going on around you. There's a few homeless people, but I never saw any trouble.

Powell St is within the Tenderloin district of SF - Tenderloin makes Redfern look like Vaucluse!

I'd recommend an Uber service direct from SFO to Union Sq...

Only time I've used Uber in SF was for a return trip across the Golden Gate to the north bay.

I've used the blue van super shuttles a few times, but I mostly use BART to/from SFO. When I'm in SF, I normally stay somewhere within walking distance of one of the downtown BART stations. Never had a problem.

Used the BART last week from SFO to Powell St for a union sq hotel. Was perfectly fine. Thats said, if there was two of us I would have used uber which is always a great option in San Francisco. Just make sure you check for the correct pick up point at the airport which for international is at departures.

I regularly use the BART to Powell Street without drama – it's not as bad as some people make out – but for peace of mind then Uber or Lyft from SFO will do fine.

Just did this last week. It’s totally fine and not any less safe than any other part of any transit system. They will be walking among hundreds of other transit users around the area basically constantly.

There's plenty of homeless people hanging around the station & it's a bit off putting, but I didn't feel unsafe. As per the other posters, I'd suggest Uber/Cab if you're concerned. If it was my wife alone I'd probably tell her to get a cab.

Book a Super Shuttle and enjoy the tour and safety.

I imagine that his wife, a grown woman, is perfectly capable of taking care of herself.

I didn't say anything about his wife - I said my wife. Whilst she's a grown woman & is capable of taking care of herself, based on my experience when travelling overseas with her many times. she can become anxious about new surroundings & it becomes stressful & not enjoyable for her. So maybe before getting on your high horse realise everyone may not be as comfortable as you in new surroundings.

SF is a beautiful city ... however its homeless and drug addict problems are well beyond anything I've ever experienced in Australia or even elsewhere in the US.
