Qantas' first class pyjamas are going 'fashion forward' with a new design from Melbourne-born, Paris-based couturier Martin Grant.
These prêt-à-porter PJs borrow subtle cues from the Qantas uniforms such as a dusky French navy, while the matching slippers incorporate a flash of 'Qantas red'.
Woven from 100% cotton, the unisex sleepwear "features a tailored neckline and tapered silhouette to ensure elegant comfort" for first class flyers, Qantas says, and will be issued in a useful drawstring bag.
And we're pleased to announce there are pockets in those pants!
The colour scheme strikes a dramatic different from the charcoal of Qantas' current first class sleepwear (below).
In addition to the PJs and slippers, Grant has also created a new first class amenity kit for passengers at the pointy end.
This sees today's SK-II goodies make way for a line of botanical ASPAR skincare products from Australian company Aurora Spa, including hand cream, lip moisturiser and facial moisturiser.
There's minimal difference between the women's kit...
... and the bag for blokes.
There's also a made-by-Grant '3D eye mask' which cups the eyes to help block out light when it's time to count some first-class sheep.
Grant has become the Flying Kangaroo’s go-to fashionista with his revamp of uniforms for Qantas pilots and crew, but he admits that "designing pyjamas is something completely different for me, creatively.”
"Material breathability, flattering colours and tapered lines were top of mind when coming up with the design, as well as ensuring the pyjama bottoms don’t crawl up the leg and a non-restrictive neckline just as important."
The new pyjamas and amenity kits will be handed out in the first class cabins of Qantas' flagship Airbus A380 from 21 October 2016.
In related news, Sheridan will provide a "new bedding ensemble... using natural fibres in luxury fabrications" for the A380 first class suites from mid-2017.

I miss out by five days! Damn! They look lovely, not that I minded the grey. The best bit is they're staying with 100% cotton.

the pajamas seem nice, but the amenity kit looks like a big step backward. Aurora products are great, but got nothing on SKII!

It's to be consistent with the product in the first class spa.

Nice! The grey Business class PJs are starting to look a little pedestrian. Any idea if J PJs are getting a refresh?

We've heard there may be some Martin Grant 'special editions' on and off, but for the most part Qantas will be staying with the current business class PJs

I'm disappointed that they'll no longer supply a shaver and shaving gel. Looks like I'll have to bring my own.

Love the new colour and the quality looks excellent. I much prefer a vee-neck top but that is a small quibble.

Love that they now have pockets, colour very masculine in my humble opinion, love EK PJs both for the pockets and also more 'gender neutral' beige

Pretty underwhelming. Some of the product looks cheap, like Jetstar socks - lol. You would expect more refinement and zhuzh in the fabrics too. And do they, pray tell, have a good range of sizes including XXXL for Aussie and Kiwi blokes? Not everyone who flies First is a model.

Thanks David. They did need an upgrade, and do look nice. I swim regularly at Manly in the mornings and the amount of people wearing Qantas First or Bus PJ's is huge. Only a matter of time till we see new ones. On a side note...I'm still suggesting EK First are out in front but the SQ First PJ's last a life time.

Are you seriously saying that people are wearing airline pj's to the beach?!? What is that about? PJ's are sleepwear not swimwear!

Qantas deodorant and mouthwash are essential items. You got the deoderant but where is mouthwash? FYI Emirates Business Class Amenity kit still outclasses yours with all that and more than your new 'First' Class kit.

Colour looks great, extra points for pockets. Agree with comments about preferring a V-neck, but that's just an aesthetic preference more than a comfort thing for me. As for the amenity kit, other than the eye mask, ear plugs and socks, does anyone actually use any of the other stuff the airlines puts in there? No airline uses any brands I like or the specific products I use, so I just dump the toiletries to keep the amenity kit pouch/bag. I've honestly never seen any other regular First passengers use the toiletries provided, most times the whole kits are left behind, unopened. I regularly bump into a lady on the SIN-JFK route who brings her own sheets and pillow for her SQ suite

I am sure the PJs are great, but Qantas never offer sizes larger than XL and I am 6`8 ! Why do they assume everyone is of average height?

Love the PJs with pockets, just running around in Virgin Business PJs where the lack of pockets is really annoying. The previous 1st amenity kit was very low rent, but this one is not very exciting either, really should do a bit better.

Wow. New pajamas. Qantas needs to focus on other much more important aspects of its First Class service. Having recently flown First on a number of competitors I'm sorry to say Qantas First isn't up there with the best.

Do the PJs have even a subtle nod to the flying kangaroo? A small kangaroo on the shoulder, a hint of red? While they might be well-made, there is a risk that you've walked into a cult if too many people are wearing them. And I'm sure the ladies are impressed with the blokey amenity kit??

I have no intention of ever changing into PJs at FL390; I do not wish to emerge from some forced landing, hijacking, or accident dead or alive in a pair of grey or blue polyester pyjamas, thank you very much. And the Martin Grant uniform is not bad, except that on a woman with even a tad of extra weight, they resemble sausage casing, and they've been executed in a really cheap fabric, that looks tatty and worn after about 6 months. And the amenities packs on all airlines are just rubbish to be chucked out. There's always oral hygiene stuff in the J or F lavs, and I have my own skincare routine (far superior to any of the luxe brand name crap the airlines provide) which travels on board with me. Give me a perfect seat and perfect privacy, restrained and observant service, good wine, cleanliness, punctuality, and unobstructed boarding whenever I am ready and immediate disembarkation upon arrival and I'm happy.

Recently flew EK from Dubai to Paris in First during the day and no PJ offered. When I mentioned I had not bought any PJ for my Paris stay, they soon found a set for my wife and I in the nice carry bag. Also did a trip from Vancouver in J with JAL last week. They offer to loan you a black cardi type thing that must fit a 12 year old. The JAL amenity kit nothing like the EK version. The First kits from EK make great gifts for friends.

FYI if you're flying in the days before these come out, you'll get business class PJs - they've run out of the old F pyjamas. Unbelievably some people did complain about this.

Just FYI the new slimline F PJ’s have been ditched and they have gone back to the baggy style. Same color scheme but nowhere close to what the new PJs were like when first launched last year.
