Qantas Platinum, Gold frequent flyers get AirNZ lounge access

Qantas’ top-tier frequent flyers will have access to Air New Zealand’s network of domestic lounges when flying with Air New Zealand from 28 October 2018 as the partnership between the Aussie and Kiwi carriers kicks into gear.

Card-carrying Qantas Gold, Platinum Platinum One and of course elite Chairman’s Lounge members will be able to visit any domestic Air New Zealand lounge before their flight – provided of course they’re booked on the Qantas codeshare version of that flight, which will carry a QF8xxx flight number.

They'll also have guesting rights to bring in one fellow traveller booked on the same flight (and earn Qantas frequent flyer points and status credits in the range of 800-1200 points and 10-20 status credits depending on their ticket.)

However, Qantas Club members are not included in the AirNZ lounge access deal.

This mirrors the reciprocal arrangements for Air New Zealand’s Airpoints frequent flyers, which sees Elite and Gold members booked on a codeshare flight with Qantas enjoying access to Qantas Club lounges in Australia's capital cities and regional centres.

Air New Zealand's lounges at Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Auckland will remain off-limits to Qantas Frequent Flyers because the QF/NZ hookup applies only to the domestic network of each airline, not trans-Tasman and other international services.

The main question I now have is...

What will it be like if I'm a NZ Gold traveling on an NZ operated but QF marketed service?

or

What will it be like if I'm a QF Gold traveling on a QF operated but NZ marketed service?

In those situations what will the points earning and status benefits look like?

I think you want the recent Ausbt article titled "Earning Qantas points, status credits on Air New Zealand flights"

NZ Gold on non-NZ codeshare gets what the non-NZ codeshare offers to NZ Gold I'd presume, but then both circumstances only occur if you book on the other airline's Trans-Tasman flight with such a codeshare. Caveat Emptor

What about Emirates Gold ?

Emirates what have to negotiate a separate deal for that and anything of value they could offer would be anti-competitive unless they are able to tear up their deal with QF and do so.

Can't see this arrangement working at all. Staff in Lounges/Check-In will be totally confused with this very odd QF and NZ arrangement.

I’m QF Platinum and just got access refused in Air NZ lounge in Auckland, due to “not travelling on the same day” as my incoming QF flight!!??!! Air NZ adamant that this was the rule. I arrived Monday and after a days work in AKL flying to Wellington. Amazed.
